About
A tricyclic antidepressant pharmaceutical agent with no cosmetic applications. As a prescription drug, its presence in cosmetic products is prohibited in most jurisdictions.
Amitriptyline (INN; 3-(10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d]heptalen-5-ylidene)-N,N-dimethylpropan-1-amine) is a tricyclic antidepressant that acts primarily by inhibiting serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake. It has significant anticholinergic, antihistamine, and sedative effects. As a pharmaceutical agent, it has no cosmetic function and is specifically restricted in EU regulations. Its powerful pharmacological effects (CNS depression, cardiac effects, anticholinergic effects) make it entirely unsuitable for topical cosmetic use.
