Benzfetamine (benzphetamine, CAS 156-08-1) is an anorectic sympathomimetic that acts as a prodrug to methamphetamine and amphetamine. It is a Schedule IV controlled substance under the US DEA schedule and is prohibited in cosmetic products under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 Annex II. Pharmacology includes tachycardia, hypertension, insomnia, and dependence liability; there is no topical or cosmetic indication. Its appearance in a cosmetic ingredient registry is exclusively as an Annex II prohibition marker.
