CAPRYL/CAPRAMIDOPROPYL HYDROXYSULTAINE
Safety score · 0–100
Fine
Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A gentle amphoteric surfactant derived from capryl and capramidopropyl betaine, providing rich foam and excellent skin compatibility in cleansers.
This hydroxysultaine is related to the babassu derivative (34512) but uses a shorter capryl/capra (C8-C10) fatty acid chain profile, which generally reduces residual allergenicity. Hydroxysultaines are amphoteric surfactants that remain effective across a broad pH range and are noted for low irritation potential in patch testing. Not restricted in EU Annexes II or III. Readily biodegradable.
Skin benefits
- Ultra-mild cleansing for facial and body products
- Excellent foaming even in hard water
- Good compatibility with other surfactants
Known concerns
- Amide bond may hydrolyse under extreme pH conditions
- Low irritation but eye contact should be minimised
