About

Extracellular vesicles from cultured Chamomilla recutita callus cells, a novel delivery system for chamomile bioactives. May provide enhanced delivery of anti-inflammatory compounds compared to conventional chamomile extracts.

Chamomilla Recutita Callus Extracellular Vesicles are isolated from the growth medium of Chamomilla recutita callus cells grown in plant cell culture. Plant extracellular vesicles are emerging as natural nanocarriers for bioactive compounds, with potential for skin delivery of their molecular cargo. The callus-derived vesicles may contain elevated levels of secondary metabolites produced by the undifferentiated cultured cells. Under EU Regulation 1223/2009, plant cell culture ingredients are permissible. This represents an innovative application of chamomile technology combining the well-known safety of German chamomile with novel vesicle delivery.

Skin benefits

  • Potential enhanced delivery of chamomile anti-inflammatory compounds
  • Contains characteristic bisabolol and chamazulene from chamomile callus
  • Innovative delivery system for skin bioactives
  • Still benefits from the well-established safety of German chamomile

Known concerns

  • Novel ingredient with limited specific safety data
  • Callus culture may produce different metabolite profile than field-grown chamomile
  • Vesicle composition requires standardization
