A thiourea derivative (ethylene thiourea) with severe reproductive toxicity and carcinogenicity concerns, banned from cosmetic applications in the EU.
Imidazolidine-2-thione (Ethylene thiourea, ETU) carries H360D (reproductive toxicity), H351 (carcinogen suspect), and H372 (specific organ toxicity) classifications, among many others. It is not listed in EU Annex II because it is already prohibited by its classification as a substance of very high concern (SVHC) due to reproductive toxicity. ETU is primarily used as a rubber accelerator and is prohibited in cosmetic products. The ingredient has no acceptable use in topical formulations due to its severe toxicity profile.
