About
A rice plant-produced version of human Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) — promotes skin cell renewal for anti-aging. Plant-made for purity, but growth factor concerns apply.
Rice sh-Oligopeptide-1 is a recombinant human EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) produced in rice (Oryza sativa) through molecular farming (transient expression or stable transgenesis). The 53-amino acid peptide is identical to human EGF and may contain disulfide bonds and/or glycosylation. Rice-based expression offers advantages including proper eukaryotic protein folding, absence of bacterial endotoxins, and potential for large-scale agricultural production. The same growth factor safety concerns apply as for other EGF variants — while anti-aging effects are demonstrated, the theoretical risk of promoting abnormal cell growth in predisposed individuals persists.
Function

- Stimulates skin cell renewal and proliferation
- Anti-aging effects — fine line reduction
- Wound healing promotion
- Plant-produced — no bacterial endotoxin concerns
Known concerns
- Growth factors may theoretically promote tumor growth
- Long-term safety of topical growth factor use not established
- Novel biotechnology ingredient
- Same concerns as other recombinant EGF variants
