A hydrogenated (fully saturated) version of the wax from lacquer tree peel — the hydrogenation step makes it extremely stable and resistant to oxidation, ideal for long-shelf-life anhydrous formulations.
Hydrogenated Rhus verniciflua peel cera is produced by controlled catalytic hydrogenation of the peel wax of Rhus verniciflua ( lacquer tree, also the source of urushi lacquer). Hydrogenation saturates all double bonds in the triterpene and long-chain alcohol fractions, dramatically increasing oxidative stability and raising the melting point. The ingredient retains the natural plant wax's film-forming and emollient properties while becoming more robust against rancidity. Rhus verniciflua derivatives have historical use in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine; no hazard statements apply to the hydrogenated wax form.
