Myristamidopropyl Betaine is an amphoteric surfactant derived from myristic acid (a saturated fatty acid) and propyl betaine. It is widely used in rinse-off cosmetic products including shampoos, body washes, and facial cleansers for its mildness, viscosity-building, and foam-enhancing properties. CosIng lists no EU restrictions. Like other alkylamidopropyl betaines, the main safety concern relates to potential nitrosamine formation during storage (mitigated by formulation and packaging choices) and trace impurity levels. The compound is considered safe for use in cosmetic formulations at standard concentrations.
