PEG-10 Stearate (CAS 9004-99-3) is a polyethylene glycol ester of stearic acid with 10 moles of ethylene oxide. It functions as an emulsifier, surfactant, and skin conditioning agent. It is effective at creating stable oil-in-water emulsions with good skin feel. The CIR Expert Panel has reviewed PEG stearates and found them safe for cosmetic use when formulated to be non-irritating. As with other ethoxylated ingredients, trace 1,4-dioxane contamination from manufacturing is addressed through purification processes. Well-tolerated by most skin types.
