Oxpheneridine is a synthetic opioid (1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-oxo-2-phenyl-3-isoquinoline derivative) with potent analgesic activity similar to morphine. It is classified as an INN (International Nonproprietary Name) pharmaceutical substance and would require prescription status for any medical use. Cosmetic use of opioid-derived substances is prohibited under EU cosmetics regulation EC 1223/2009, which excludes substances with pharmacological activity from cosmetic product definitions.
