Chloral hydrate — a withdrawn sedative drug that is an IARC Group 2A probable carcinogen. Not a cosmetic ingredient.
2,2,2-Trichloroethane-1,1-diol (chloral hydrate, CAS 302-17-0) is a sedative-hypnotic drug with a long but problematic history of medical use as an insomnia and pediatric sedation agent; it has been withdrawn from many markets on safety grounds (narrow therapeutic index, cardiac and respiratory depression, overdose lethality). IARC classifies chloral hydrate as Group 2A (probably carcinogenic to humans) on the basis of animal liver tumour evidence. It is not an authorised cosmetic ingredient and has no cosmetic function.
