It is classified by IARC as Group 2B (possibly carcinogenic to humans) and EU CLP as H301/H311 (acute toxicity), H350 (carcinogen), H318 (serious eye damage), H341 (mutagen), and H412 (aquatic toxicity). EU SVHC identification applies. The EU Cosmetics Regulation Annex II explicitly prohibits 1,3-propanesultone in cosmetic products.
