About
Naphthylamines and their salts are among the most severely restricted cosmetic ingredients due to proven carcinogenicity. Both 1-naphthylamine (beta-naphthylamine) and 2-naphthylamine (alpha-naphthylamine) are classified as Category 1A carcinogens, and the Danger signal word reflects the severe acute toxicity profile.
1- and 2-Naphthylamines and their salts are listed in EU Annex II (reference 1330) as prohibited substances in cosmetic products. Both isomers are classified as Category 1A carcinogens under EU CLP regulation, and 2-naphthylamine specifically is a notorious bladder carcinogen historically linked to occupational cancer. The Danger signal word and extensive hazard classifications (H300, H302, H310, H311, H317, H320, H371, H411) reflect acute toxicity, sensitization, organ toxicity, and environmental hazards. The Annex II prohibition means these compounds and their salts are absolutely prohibited in EU cosmetic products.
