Better known as Lilial or Butylphenyl Methylpropional, this floral aldehyde is banned in EU cosmetics since March 2022 after being classified as CMR Category 1B reproductive toxicant under Omnibus IV.

- Historically used as a lily-of-the-valley floral aldehyde imparting a powdery muguet character
- Was a workhorse perfumery ingredient in personal care, laundry and home fragrance
Known concerns
- Banned in EU cosmetics since 1 March 2022 under Commission Regulation (EU) 2021/1902 (Omnibus IV)
- Classified CMR Category 1B as toxic to reproduction based on animal fertility and foetal development studies
- Listed in Annex II of EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, so any product containing it must be removed from market
- Also a recognized fragrance contact allergen in addition to its CMR endpoint
