About
An acetate ester of 2-methyl-1-naphthol offering a pleasant, sweet-floral odor profile that contributes warm, slightly spicy notes to fragrance compositions.
This naphthyl acetate is the acetylated derivative of 2-methyl-1-naphthol, which is restricted in Annex III/213; however the acetate itself is not separately listed and has no EU restriction entry. The esterification reduces the free phenol functionality that contributes to the sensitization profile of the parent naphthol. RIFM has evaluated this material as safe for use in fragrances at current exposure levels, and it is used at low concentrations as a fragrance fixative.
Known concerns
- Sensitization potential at high concentration
- Parent naphthol is restricted — ensure no residual free naphthol
