About
An ester used as a fragrance and conditioning agent in cosmetic formulations.
3-Heptenyl isobutyrate is an unsaturated ester combining 3-hepten-1-ol with isobutyric acid. The presence of a double bond in the alcohol portion (position 3 of the heptyl chain) introduces a green, fruity dimension to its odor profile, reminiscent of green banana and tropical fruits. The double bond also introduces mild structural alerts for oxidation, and like other unsaturated fragrance materials, storage stability should be considered. Under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, no specific restrictions apply to this compound. IFRA guidelines for unsaturated fragrance esters apply for appropriate use concentrations.
