About

Alpha-arbutin — the more stable, more potent arbutin isomer. Blocks the pigment-making enzyme tyrosinase to fade dark spots. SCCS-reviewed and safe up to 2% in face creams.

Skin benefits

  • Inhibits tyrosinase to reduce dark spots
  • More stable than beta-arbutin
  • Gentler than hydroquinone
  • Brightening for melasma/PIH

Known concerns

  • Slow in-vivo hydrolysis releases trace hydroquinone
  • SCCS recommends max 2% in face creams
  • Avoid combining with strong oxidizers
