Acacia arabica (now more commonly referred to as Vachellia nilotica, Egyptian mimosa or gum arabic tree) bark contains tannins, flavonoids, and polysaccharides. It has a long history of traditional use in skin care and as a binding agent. As a source of natural gum arabic (acacia gum), it has been evaluated for food and cosmetic use extensively. EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 does not impose specific restrictions on this ingredient. Minor allergic reactions are possible in sensitized individuals.
