About

ACETYLCEDRENE is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulation. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.

Acetylcedrene (CAS 32388-55-9, PubChem CID 16220111) is a sesquiterpene ketone formed by acetylation of cedrene, a component of cedarwood oil. It functions as a fragrance ingredient with a warm, woody, amber-musky character that provides excellent fixative properties in perfume compositions. RIFM has evaluated it for fragrance safety, and IFRA permits its use within specified limits. It is not listed as an EU mandated fragrance allergen. However, like many terpene derivatives, it may form oxidation products over time that could be sensitising.

Known concerns

  • Potential for autoxidation forming sensitising products
  • Limited published toxicological data
  • May cause sensitisation in fragrance-sensitive individuals
