About
A reactive fresh/herbal terpene fragrance — typical terpene oxidation/sensitization caveats apply.
Allo-ocimene (2,6-dimethyl-2,4,6-octatriene) is a conjugated acyclic terpene used as a fragrance ingredient for its fresh, herbal, slightly floral note. It is an isomer of ocimene and related to myrcene. Conjugated monoterpenes are prone to oxidation, and their oxidation products are the primary sensitizers in the class — similar to what has been well-documented for limonene and linalool. Used at low percentages in fine fragrance and personal care, typically stabilized with antioxidants. IFRA/RIFM guidance covers use levels; independent toxicology for this specific isomer is more limited than for ocimene itself.
