About
Allyl ester with a sweet pineapple-fruity character used as a fragrance ingredient. Classified as a moderate skin sensitizer and restricted by IFRA.
Allyl butyrate is the ester of allyl alcohol and butyric acid, used at low concentrations as a fruity, pineapple-evocative top note in fragrance oils. The allyl ester family is well documented by RIFM and IFRA as carrying meaningful sensitization potential — repeated exposure can provoke allergic contact dermatitis in susceptible individuals — and IFRA has published concentration limits for leave-on skin products. The ester can also irritate eyes and mucous membranes at elevated concentrations. None of this makes it outright unsafe in finished products that respect IFRA limits, but it does place it clearly below the "unremarkable" fragrance components that score in the Fine band. People with known fragrance allergies should avoid products that declare it.
