A steam-distilled aqueous solution from Aloe maculata (soap aloe) leaves, functioning as a skin-conditioning hydrosol in natural cosmetic formulations.
Aloe maculata (syn. Aloe saponaria) is known as soap aloe due to its saponin-rich leaf juice used historically as a detergent. The steam-distilled leaf water removes saponins and anthraquinones, leaving a mild hydrosol. EU Regulation 1223/2009 places no restrictions on this type of botanical hydrosol. Aloe maculata is not listed in EU Annex II (prohibited) or Annex III (restricted) for cosmetic use.
