About
A resin derived from aloe plants — contains concentrated plant compounds, including some that may irritate sensitive skin.
Aloe resin is the dried latex/exudate from Aloe species and is chemically distinct from aloe gel. It contains significant concentrations of hydroxyanthracene derivatives (aloin, emodin) which are restricted in the EU. Aloe latex (a related substance) is listed in EU Regulation 1223/2009 Annex III with restrictions on aloin content (>10 ppm) due to genotoxicity concerns. Aloe species resin falls in a similar risk category. CAS 84837-08-1. PubChem reference score: 75 — reduced to 62 due to EU regulatory concerns about anthraquinone content.
Skin benefits
- Traditional antimicrobial use
- May have antioxidant properties from polyphenolic compounds
Known concerns
