About

Ammonium cumenesulfonate (CAS 37475-88-0) is the ammonium salt of cumenesulfonic acid — a hydrotrope similar to ammonium xylene sulfonate or sodium toluene sulfonate. Hydrotropes raise the solubility of surfactants and oils in water, lower viscosity, and improve clarity in shampoos and cleansers. They are not skin-actives and have very low intrinsic irritation. CIR has reviewed the hydrotrope class (xylene/toluene/cumenesulfonates) and considers them safe as used. Residual cumene should be controlled in the raw material. Score adjusted down from prior 92 to mid-yellow because cosmetic role is purely processing-aid and cumene impurity profile is supplier-dependent.
