Angelica acutiloba (Japanese name: Toki) is a well-documented kampo (traditional Japanese medicine) herb with documented safety in topical applications. It contains ferulic acid, ligustilide, and coumarins including psoralen. The coumarin/furanocoumarin content can cause photosensitization at high concentrations. EU Cosmetics Regulation requires labeling of furanocoumarins in sun care products. Used appropriately, it is a well-tolerated skin conditioning agent.
