About
Agarwood stem water — a traditional fragrant hydrosol with calming character. Real CITES-sourcing and sensitisation caveats apply.
Aquilaria crassna stem water is the aqueous steam distillate from the resinous wood of agarwood (oud). The aromatic chemistry is dominated by sesquiterpenes (agarofurans, chromones, sesquiterpenols), which can be sensitisers in reactive skin. Aquilaria species are CITES Appendix II-listed due to overharvesting; sourcing must be documented, and plantation/biotech-derived material is increasingly preferred. The hydrosol has lower aromatic-compound concentrations than the essential oil, but sensitisation risk and batch variability remain. No specific EU cosmetic restriction applies beyond general Annex III allergen labelling if triggered.
