About
A floral-fruity fragrance aldehyde used at trace levels in perfume compositions. Typical fragrance-aldehyde caveats apply.
Ar-ethylphenylbutyraldehyde (CAS 68228-11-5) is a synthetic aromatic fragrance aldehyde used in perfumery for floral-fruity notes. Like other fragrance aldehydes it is regulated by IFRA usage standards rather than specific cosmetic monographs. It is not on the EU Annex III 26-allergen declaration list. Aldehyde fragrances as a class carry some baseline sensitization potential because of protein-binding reactivity, so IFRA recommends conservative concentration limits. Public cosmetic-safety data specific to this compound is limited; at typical perfume-composition levels (well below 0.1% in the finished product) real-world tolerability is generally good.
Skin benefits
- Fragrance aldehyde for floral-fruity character
- Minor component of perfume compositions
Known concerns
- Aldehyde fragrance — some sensitization potential
- IFRA guidance applies
- Modest public cosmetic-safety data
