About
A class of psychoactive pharmaceutical sedatives with no place in cosmetic formulations. These substances are banned from cosmetics in most jurisdictions due to serious CNS effects.
Benzodiazepines and Benzodiazepines (as listed in regulatory databases) refers to the entire class of psychoactive drugs acting on GABA-A receptors, including diazepam, lorazepam, alprazolam, and related compounds. They are used as anxiolytics, sedatives, hypnotics, and muscle relaxants. Their use in topical cosmetics is prohibited in the EU due to risk of systemic absorption and CNS depression. These substances have no cosmetic function and are listed in EU Annex II (banned substances for cosmetic use).
