About
A heterocyclic sulfur-nitrogen compound better known from rubber/tire manufacture. Contact-allergy record means it is a caution ingredient, not a mainstream cosmetic aromatic.
Benzothiazole (CAS 95-16-9) is a fused bicyclic heteroaromatic used as a chemical intermediate and appearing naturally in small amounts in some foods. It is the parent structure of the rubber accelerator 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, and benzothiazole itself is recognized in occupational dermatology literature as a contact allergen, particularly among people sensitized to rubber products. GHS classifications typically include acute oral toxicity and skin/eye irritation. Environmental monitoring shows it is widespread and persistent, which raises ecotoxicological concerns. While trace natural occurrence exists, intentional cosmetic use is limited and warrants caution.
