4-Aminobiphenyl (biphenyl-4-ylamine) is an aromatic amine that is classified as a Category 1A carcinogen by IARC, with documented causation of bladder cancer in humans. Its salts share the same toxicological concerns as the parent compound. Under EU Regulation 1223/2009 Annex II, this substance and its derivatives are prohibited for use in cosmetic products. The toxicological evidence for this compound represents one of the strongest cases for prohibition, having been identified as a human carcinogen through occupational exposure studies.
