About
An amine-functional silicone used mainly in hair care — it coats and smooths strands. Safe on skin/hair; the main issue is environmental persistence.
Bis-aminopropyl dimethicone (CAS 106214-84-0; one of PubChem CIDs 818630 family for the monomer) is an aminofunctional silicone polymer carrying two terminal 3-aminopropyl groups. Used primarily as a hair conditioning agent: the amine groups adsorb to damaged keratin sites, depositing a silicone film that improves softness, combability, and frizz control. Dermal and ocular safety reports in industry literature are favorable; no GHS hazards flagged. The main concern is environmental: silicones are poorly biodegradable and persistent in aquatic systems. Not on EU Annex II/III. Some regulatory tightening on D4/D5 cyclic silicone residuals applies to the broader silicone class.
