About
A curcumin analog — one of the active compounds found in turmeric — showing promising anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Less studied than curcumin itself.
Bis-Demethoxycurcumin (BDMC) is a natural curcuminoid analog found in turmeric (Curcuma longa) rhizomes, alongside curcumin and demethoxycurcumin. Unlike curcumin, BDMC lacks the methoxy groups on the aromatic rings, which affects its absorption, metabolism, and potency. Research suggests BDMC may have equal or even greater anti-inflammatory and anticancer activity compared to curcumin in some studies, but with a different pharmacokinetic profile. In cosmetics, it would function as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory active. The lack of methoxy groups makes it slightly more polar.
