About
A cyclohexane-dicarboxylate ester built from ethoxydiglycol. Cosmetic solvent/emollient; class-level safety good, minor glycol-ether caveats.
This ingredient is the diester of 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid with ethoxydiglycol (diethylene glycol monoethyl ether). It is used as a cosmetic solvent and emollient, particularly in long-wear color products where clean feel and low volatility are wanted. The cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid is a well-tolerated alicyclic diacid; the ethoxydiglycol segments bring polarity and penetration-enhancer properties, which is useful in actives-delivery but also bears the trace-1,4-dioxane supply caveat associated with ethylene oxide-based glycol ethers. No dedicated CIR review. Typical use 1-10% in color cosmetics.
Skin benefits
- Synthetic ester solvent/emollient
- Cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid core is well-tolerated
- Low volatility, clean feel
- Alternative to some silicone emollients
Known concerns
- Contains ethoxydiglycol (diethylene glycol monoethyl ether) segments — penetration enhancer
- Limited public CIR review
- Possible 1,4-dioxane trace from the glycol ether supply
