About
A PEG-modified siloxane that combines the smooth, spreadable feel of silicone with the humectant hydration properties of polyethylene glycol — creating a water-soluble silicone conditioner.
Bis-PEG-18 Disiloxane is a disiloxane (two silicon atoms) backbone end-blocked with an average of 18 moles of ethylene oxide per terminal group. This structure gives the molecule both silicone-like sensory properties (smooth, silky spread, non-greasy) and water solubility due to the extensive PEG chains. PEG-modified silicones are used as conditioners, emulsifiers, and skin-feel modifiers in skin care, hair care, and color cosmetic products. They are generally well-tolerated and do not have the occlusive or comedogenic tendencies of pure dimethicone fluids. No EU restrictions.
Skin benefits
- Conditions skin — provides silky, smooth feel
- Water-soluble — washes off easily
- Improves product spreadability
- Non-occlusive — comfortable for daily use
Known concerns
- PEG component may carry 1,4-dioxane contamination risk (low in modern manufacturing)
- Silicone component may build up on hair with repeated use
