About
Resin from Boswellia frereana — a frankincense species from the Horn of Africa — used for centuries to heal wounds and calm inflamed skin.
Boswellia frereana is one of several Boswellia species producing frankincense resin. Its key actives are boswellic acids (AKBA, KBA), which are potent non-competitive inhibitors of 5-lipoxygenase. Unlike some other Boswellia species, B. frereana resin is particularly rich in incensole acetate. Topically, it reduces prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, making it effective for inflammatory skin conditions. No significant irritation or sensitization at cosmetic use levels.
