About
An alkylated quinoline — the quinoline family carries genotoxicity/carcinogenicity signals in some members. Orange tier reflects structural-class caution.
Butylquinoline (CAS 53452-65-6) is an alkyl-substituted quinoline used in perfumery for leather, tobacco, and earthy notes. The parent quinoline itself has been evaluated by IARC/NTP with evidence of carcinogenic activity in rodent studies and positive genotoxicity in several assays. Alkyl derivatives are not all individually classified, but the structural class warrants conservative treatment in cosmetic contexts where dermal absorption and lifetime exposure matter. Public CIR/SCCS monographs for butylquinoline specifically are limited. RIFM/IFRA manage quinoline-type materials at low percentages.
