Butyrophenone — an aromatic phenyl ketone used as a minor fragrance material. Thin cosmetic toxicology literature; default-down to orange.
Butyrophenone (phenyl propyl ketone, CAS 495-40-9) is an aromatic ketone used as a fragrance raw material. It is also the structural parent of the butyrophenone-class of antipsychotic drugs (e.g. haloperidol) — the drugs gain their psychoactivity from attached pharmacophores that butyrophenone itself does not carry, so this is structural only. Specific cosmetic dermal-toxicology data are thin; no SCCS opinion or CIR monograph covers the material. Phenyl ketones generally carry mild irritation potential and some photo-reactivity that depends on substitution pattern.
