About
C20-40 Isoparaffin is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
C20-40 Isoparaffin is a high molecular weight branched-chain alkane mixture used primarily as a viscosity-controlling agent and emollient in cosmetic formulations. It is not restricted under EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. Due to its longer carbon chain, it has minimal skin penetration potential and is considered low concern for topical use. It is structurally similar to other high-viscosity isoparaffinic hydrocarbons used in long-chain alkane cosmetic ingredients.
Skin benefits
- Provides substantial occlusive moisturization
- Acts as a viscosity builder for product texture
- Creates a protective film on the skin surface
Known concerns
- May be too heavy for some skin types
- Limited volatility compared to shorter-chain isoparaffins
