About
Carbon monoxide is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulation. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas that binds to hemoglobin with approximately 200-250 times the affinity of oxygen, forming carboxyhemoglobin and preventing oxygen transport in the blood. It is classified as a Category 1 acute toxicant by inhalation (H330 - fatal if inhaled) and a Category 2 reproductive toxicant (H360 - may damage fertility or the unborn child) under CLP Regulation. There is no plausible legitimate cosmetic use for carbon monoxide, and its presence would represent either contamination or intentional misuse.
Known concerns
- Category 1 acute inhalation toxicant (H330)
- Category 2 reproductive toxicant (H360)
- Chemical asphyxiant - no cosmetic use whatsoever
