About
Ceteth-14 is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Ceteth-14 is a non-ionic surfactant produced by ethoxylating cetyl (hexadecyl) alcohol with approximately 14 moles of ethylene oxide. The relatively long EO chain provides significant water solubility while the cetyl alcohol base contributes emollient and occlusive properties. PubChem CID 2724259 corresponds to the cetyl alcohol structure. Under EU Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, Ceteth-14 is not restricted. The ingredient is considered safe for cosmetic use, though as with all ethoxylated surfactants, potential 1,4-dioxane residual should be monitored.
Skin benefits
- Emollient and emulsifying properties improve skin moisture barrier
- Provides smooth, creamy texture in cosmetic formulations
- Effective for stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions
Known concerns
- Potential 1,4-dioxane impurity from ethoxylation process
- May increase skin penetration of co-formulated ingredients
