About

An amphoteric surfactant derived from chitosan and lauroyl glycine, used for gentle cleansing and skin conditioning.

This ingredient is the reaction product of N-lauroyl glycine (a naturally derived amino acid fatty acid condensate) with chitosan. The result is an amphoteric surfactant with excellent dermatological compatibility. Chitosan derivatives are not restricted under EU cosmetic regulations. The lauroyl glycine moiety is derived from coconut/palm oil and glycine, both well-tolerated materials. Considered safe for use in facial cleansers and other sensitive-skin formulations.

Skin benefits

  • Provides mild amphoteric surfactant action suitable for sensitive skin
  • Conditions and softens skin while cleansing
  • Compatible with anionic and cationic ingredients in formulations

Known concerns

  • Chitosan component is crustacean-derived — caution for shellfish allergy sufferers
  • Generally very mild; low irritation potential in standard tests
