About
Chlorotrifluoropropene is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Note: classified as harmful to aquatic environments. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Chlorotrifluoropropene is an unsaturated chlorofluorocarbon with a carbon-carbon double bond. Such compounds are typically used as refrigerants, foam-blowing agents, or chemical intermediates in industrial processes. The presence of both chlorine and fluorine substituents in an alkene structure raises concerns about atmospheric reactivity, potential for ozone depletion, and greenhouse gas effects. Like other CFCs and HCFCs, these compounds face regulatory phase-out under the Montreal Protocol and EU F-Gas Regulation (EC 517/2014). The compound has no cosmetic function and would only appear in cosmetics databases erroneously or as a residual impurity in banned aerosol propellants.
Known concerns
- No cosmetic approval or use
- Ozone-depleting potential
- High global warming potential
- Industrial chemical only
- Regulatory phase-out substance
