About
A sterol ester found naturally in skin surface lipids, used in cosmetics for its excellent skin affinity, barrier-supporting properties, and noncomedogenic emollient characteristics.
Cholesteryl oleate is a sterol ester formed from cholesterol and oleic acid, and is a natural component of both skin surface lipids and food-derived emulsions. It functions as a skin-conditioning agent and emollient. It is not restricted in EU CosIng Annex III and has no GHS hazard classifications. Its chemical structure as a cholesterol derivative confers excellent biocompatibility with skin. It is readily metabolised in the skin and is considered safe for cosmetic use at normal concentrations.
Skin benefits
