About
Ciclopirox Olamine is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Ciclopirox Olamine (CAS 41621-49-2, PubChem CID 38911) is the ethanolamine salt of ciclopirox, a synthetic hydroxypyridone antifungal agent. Listed under EU Annex III/61, it is restricted to specific cosmetic product types (anti-dandruff shampoos) at regulated concentrations (typically ≤1.5%). It works by chelating polyvalent metal cations (Fe³⁺, Al³⁺), inhibiting metal-dependent enzymes in fungal cells. It has broad-spectrum activity against dermatophytes, yeasts (including Malassezia), moulds, and some bacteria. As a pharmaceutical-grade active, it requires careful formulation and concentration control.
