About
An ester of cis-3-hexenol with benzoic acid providing a warm, slightly sweet-green fragrance profile with good fixative properties. Benzoate esters are generally regarded as safe in cosmetic applications.
Cis-3-hexenyl benzoate combines the green-note properties of cis-3-hexenol with the fixative and warm aromatic qualities of benzoic acid. The benzoate group imparts some degree of antimicrobial activity to the compound while also acting as a fragrance fixative, extending the longevity of other fragrance components. Benzoic acid and its esters are listed in EU Annex V (preservatives allowed) in certain contexts; however, as a fragrance ingredient in the context of this ester, standard EU allergen and IFRA rules apply. The compound is not directly restricted.
Skin benefits
- Fragrance material with mild fixative properties
- No documented direct skin conditioning benefit
Known concerns
- May require EU fragrance allergen declaration
- Benzoate portion may contribute to fragrance allergen labeling requirements
