About
Aqueous solution of steam distillate from Citrus grandis × Citrus paradisi (pomelo/grapefruit hybrid) fruit, containing furanocoumarins.
Citrus Grandis/Paradisi Fruit Water is the hydrosol from steam distillation of grapefruit/pomelo hybrid fruit. The material is subject to EU Annex III restriction II/358 due to furanocoumarin content in the original fruit. Furanocoumarins such as bergapten can cause phototoxic reactions when applied to skin followed by UV exposure. The distilled form reduces but does not eliminate furanocoumarin content.
Skin benefits
- Pleasant citrus fragrance
- Contains trace fruit-derived organic acids
Known concerns
- EU Annex III restricted (II/358) furanocoumarins
- Phototoxicity risk if not fully distilled
- May cause photosensitisation
