About
Gently exfoliating robusta coffee seed powder — boosts microcirculation
Coffea robusta seed powder is similar to Coffea arabica but has a higher caffeine content and different chlorogenic acid profile. Caffeine is widely used in cosmetics and has been reviewed by the SCCS for certain applications. However, robusta coffee beans are more susceptible to fungal contamination (ochratoxin A) during storage, which is a concern. It is not listed on any EU restriction annexes specifically, but quality control is important for this ingredient.
Skin benefits
- Caffeine has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties
- Chlorogenic acids provide antioxidant benefits
- May improve microcirculation when applied topically
Known concerns
- Higher caffeine content increases sensitization risk
- Risk of ochratoxin A contamination from storage
- Mild allergenicity from coffee proteins
