Cycloheximide is a microbial toxin produced by Streptomyces griseus that inhibits eukaryotic protein synthesis. It is highly toxic by ingestion and dermal exposure, classified as a suspected reproductive toxicant and carcinogen. It has no authorized cosmetic use in the EU under Regulation 1223/2009 and its acute toxicity (LD50 ~2 mg/kg oral, mouse) makes any topical application entirely unacceptable.
