Cymbopogon citratus (West Indian lemongrass) leaf contains citral (60-80%), myrcene, and other volatile compounds with documented antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity. Citral is a known fragrance allergen restricted in EU Annex III for leave-on products. The essential oil can cause skin sensitization and phototoxicity if not properly diluted. Used in low concentrations in rinse-off formulations, it is considered safe.
