About

An extract of piri-piri grass root — an aromatic Amazonian botanical. Woody-scented with mild conditioning; contains sesquiterpenes that can sensitise.

Cyperus articulatus (piri-piri, jointed flatsedge) is a tropical sedge whose rhizome produces an aromatic essential oil rich in sesquiterpenes (cyperotundone, mustakone). In cosmetics it serves as a fragrance and skin-conditioning agent. There is no CIR monograph. The essential-oil fraction contributes typical fragrance-allergen concerns, and the ethnobotanical literature describes mildly sedative effects when taken internally — not relevant topically. No specific EU CosIng restriction.
